SEND at Babel
π DANCE IS FOR EVERYONE π
Every Child Belongs
At Babel School of Dance, we believe dance should be accessible, enjoyable and rewarding for every child.
For children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), dance can offer so much more than learning steps and routines. In a welcoming and supportive environment, dance provides opportunities to develop confidence, creativity, communication and a sense of belonging.
The benefits of dance for children with SEND
Confidence & self-esteem
Dance gives children opportunities to experience success, celebrate what they can do and develop confidence in their own abilities.
Communication & self-expression
Movement provides another way to communicate and express thoughts, feelings and ideas. This can be particularly valuable for children who find verbal communication more challenging.
Social interaction & friendships
Being part of a dance class encourages children to interact with others, work together and feel part of a group, helping to develop social skills and friendships.
Coordination & physical development
Dance can support the development of balance, coordination, spatial awareness, mobility and overall physical confidence, with activities adapted appropriately to the individual child.
Creativity & imagination
There isnβt just one way to dance. Children can explore movement, music and ideas in ways that encourage imagination and allow their individuality to shine.
Routine & independence
The familiar structure of a regular dance class can provide reassurance while gradually encouraging children to develop independence, make choices and try new things.
Most importantly β enjoyment!
Dance should be fun. Music, movement and being part of a group can bring enormous enjoyment and give children a positive activity to look forward to.
A supportive approach at Babel
We understand that SEND is not one-size-fits-all. Every child is an individual, and what helps one dancer may not help another.
At Babel, our aim is to work with the child and their parent or carer to understand their individual needs and identify reasonable adjustments that can help them participate and enjoy their dance experience.
We want children to feel welcomed, valued and included β not defined by a diagnosis or disability.
Whether a child wants to dance for fun, make friends, build confidence, develop new skills or simply experience the joy of moving to music, there is a place for them at Babel.
Different needs. Different strengths. One dance family.
Babel School of Dance β helping every dancer find their place to shine.
